Summer Reading Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement Newsletter.pdf

Summer Reading Lists and Tasks were forwarded to Pre-AP students using two methods and at different times:

Grade 9 - ENG1DP - Mrs. Efpatridis

Students were mailed reading lists and reading/writing tasks the 3rd week of July based on the class list provided by the Guidance Dept. on June 28, 2014. Mrs. Efpatridis randomly called 2 students to confirm receipt of the packages that were mailed from Guelph.

If a student did not receive a package in the mail or was added to the course after the class list for the course was generated, he/she can access the tasks below:

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience if a student has not received a package. The Summer Reading Program for Pre-AP students was introduced this year. The merits of reading during the summer are explained in the first document above. During this inaugural process, there may be some challenges that we face together.  Student feedback is appreciated, and students can share their experiences with me, the classroom teacher, on September 2.

If students did not receive a package or were just added to the course, they can do their best to complete the tasks based on a novel selection from the list provided. During the first week,  I will be teaching several lessons, and then to demonstrate student understanding, I will ask students to follow up by completing some writing tasks, creative components, and collaborative discussions based on the summer reading.  The tasks will be staggered over 2 weeks. Thus, students still have about 3.5 weeks to complete the reading to be prepared for class.  Good Luck and God Bless!

Grade 10 - ENG2DP - Mrs. Cole

Students were mailed reading lists and reading/writing tasks on June 25 based on the class list generated May 16, 2014. If a student did not receive a package in the mail or was added to the course after the class list for the course was generated, he/she can access the tasks below:

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience if students have not received a package. The Summer Reading Program for Pre-AP students was introduced this year, and there may be some challenges that we face together while getting it underway. Student feedback is appreciated, and students can share their experiences with their classroom teacher on September 2.

If a student did not receive a package or was just added to the course, just do the best to complete the tasks. During the first week, the  teacher will explain what tasks will be completed and assessed based on the summer reading. The tasks will be staggered over 3 weeks. Thus, students still have about 4.5 weeks to complete their reading to be prepared for class. Good Luck and God Bless!

Grade 11 - ENG3UP - Mrs. Efpatridis and Mrs. Cole

Reading lists and reading/writing tasks were hand delivered to students in ENG2DP between June 18-25 by their current grade 10 English teacher.

If for some reason students did not receive a package or were just added to the course, they  can access the tasks below:

EXCERPTED FROM SPRING EDITION (2013) OF THE CAMPION CHAMPION:

Varsity Boys Lacrosse will once again become part of the stable of spring sports available to Campion students in the second semester of the 2013/14 school year.  With Mr. Nahirniak at the helm as head coach and with him, virtually the entire Varsity Boys Football Teams’ coaching staff (Ocampo, Bianchi, Ruscica and Laezza), the season looks very promising and the school hopes to meet with some very early success.  Last year, the team did not run a squad, but with pressure from a number of interested students, Campion looks to enter a competitive team into the upcoming ROPSSAA spring season.  Apparently, there are a number of strong Lacrosse players who compete at a high level of play among our student body and the coaches hope to capitalize on this and provide these kids with an opportunity to compete for their school.   They will round out their roster with other athletes who may not be as familiar with the sport itself but do play other contact sports (ie. Hockey, football) and are not afraid of the physical nature of the game.  Campion is no stranger to the sport and actually won a Tier II Championship in 2010!  Please see Coach Nahirniak for more information regarding team meetings and the upcoming season, or follow us on twitter @Campionlacrosse or on the school website:  http://www.dpcdsb.org/CAMPI/Students/Athletics/Lacrosse/

Army Co-op

$

0

The Canadian Forces Co-op is a Co-operative Education Program whereby students can earn secondary school credits by training with a Canadian Forces Army. The aim of the military co-op is to introduce young Canadians to career opportunities in the Army Reserve.

The program runs during the second semester from February to June. Students will be placed at a local Armoury in the GTA for four days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students will receive military pay during training and successful students will be granted four Senior High School credits and accredited with their Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) and Soldier Qualification (SQ) courses. Successful students will also be offered continued full-time, paid training during the summer.

  BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

- building self-confidence
- respect
- discipline
- teamwork
- problem solving skills
- leadership training
- fitness development

  ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Basic eligibility requirements for enrolment in the Army Co-op program are the same as for the Canadian Forces. Applicants must:

- be 16 years of age
- be a Canadian citizen
- have completed at least 15 high school credits
- be free of any legal obligations

  THE SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is a six-part procedure that includes:

- an aptitude test
- a physical fitness test
- a two-part medical exam
- an interview
- a reliability check

Unfortunately, not all applicants make it through the selection process successfully (historically only 50% are successful). Therefore, it is very important that students submit their applications as early as possible. They should also choose a back-up Co-op in the event they are not successful. Army Reserve Recruiters from 32 Brigade will be available to visit high schools in the GTA and distribute Co-op information material to Co-op Teachers as well as give formal presentations to classes if requested.

Click here for important details about the program and the application process.
